A backyard built for community, connection, and play.

Hi I'm Jenna and this is Rosie,

You may have received an invite to our upcoming public hearing, and I wanted to take a moment to personally share the vision behind Casa Volley and a bit about who I am.

After five years of traveling and working remotely, I felt the pull to come home to Upstate New York to be near my family and build something meaningful. I grew up in Albany, and when I found Milton, it felt like the perfect place to plant roots; walkable, local, and full of potential.

During my time living part-time in Mexico during my travels, I fell in love with a vibrant volleyball community. We gathered daily to play, connect, and share space. It wasn’t just about the game, but about people coming together. That experience inspired me to create something similar here at home: a place rooted in movement, connection, and community.

That dream has evolved into what I call Casa Volley. I’m especially passionate about building more space for women’s sports, curated competitive experience (for men and women) and designing something high-quality, thoughtful, and respectful of the neighborhood. Not loud or chaotic, just beautiful, purposeful, and full of heart.

The Goal of Casa Volley:

Redefining the definition of "bar". I felt a need to create a place in Upstate NY for people like myself - who are not big drinkers but love to socialize and hang out. Sporty, competitive, social and vibrant. So I'm creating Casa Volley with these goals in mind:

‍1. Build & support a doubles beach volleyball community
2. Support movement, wellness & wellbeing
3. Create a safe social and welcoming space for all
4. Share food & beverage influenced by my time in Mexico

Casa Volley is being built with an open mind and adaptability. Our primary goal is to build and support the double beach volleyball community, however, sports and wellbeing is an extremely important aspect to our core. No matter what sport you play, we want to be the place for athletes and their friends to come enjoy - watch, hang, work, eat, drink.

Inspiration

The inspiration behind Casa Volley comes from my time living in Puerto Escondido, Mexico; a vibrant, sun-soaked surf town filled with color, kindness, and connection. Down there, life revolves around the ocean, movement, and community. Every day, we’d meet at the volleyball courts: locals, travelers, friends, strangers. It was casual but curated, competitive yet welcoming. The vibe was magnetic, laid-back but full of life. That spirit is what I’m trying to bring to Casa Volley.

FAQs

How late will you be open?
Our plan is to operate to only 9:30pm-10pm at the latest. All Volleyball court lights will be off by 9:30pm and remaining folks must close out and leave by 10/10:30pm.

How will you deal with noise?
We are adding fencing to a section of the property behind Deer Run. And more trees and foliage to the property to maintain it's natural look. Respect for our neighbors is important to us.

How will the lights from the court affect me?
We are open to shutting down majority of court lights at 10pm. Depending on commercial business lighting rules we have to abide by - some parking lot lights will be on longer than others but we're willing to work with the town and increase foliage so that light is not a problem.

I see that you applied for a "Bar" permit. What's your vision for a bar?
The towns definition of "BAR" is the primary income source is from beverages. I initially applied for a community recreation center for my special use permit but after looking at town center definitions and abilities for my vision. The "Bar" application made more sense.

I do want to serve beverages (first we'll start with non-alcoholic, then we'll test into beer and wine - the vision is a casual laid back place to come sit and enjoy a beverage). I want to host nights that are open to people to come join in and learn how to play volleyball. Also create a space for less sporty folks to come enjoy and watch or relax. I also work from my computer and wanted to incorporate a more social unique way to go grab a coffee, co-work, and play a game of ping pong or volleyball during the day. In the winter, the back yard will not be operating for volleyball.

Will you be open all year long?
Definitely for the May - October. When we're not playing volleyball, I'm still working out the vision for Casa Volley in the winter, but I like the idea of a low key cafe and community shift to hosting meet ups for winter sports (indoor volleyball, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, etc).
